What a fantastic Saturday we had at Vanilla Black Coffee & Books! Dreams are worth sharing – that was the theme of my book reading in Kennington, London. Me and my interns, Rafael and Maria, helped me kick it off with the preparations. We could not have wished for a better space than this – cozy but not crowded and with a wall shelf full of books.
The event ran smoothly. As guests arrived, I asked them to write down what their dreams are on a piece of paper. When everybody found their place to sit, I gave a small speech on how the book was created, why it was my dream come true. I thanked a couple of people involved in the process. I thanked those without whose support none of this would be possible.
Then I read a small excerpt from The Girl Who Wanted to Catch a Cloud in a Marmalade Jar. (One true fact: I was doing a prep – reading the book out loud a couple of Sundays and highlighting and marking how to work with my voice; it was a good idea, but there is still a lot of space for improvement!) We wrapped up the book reading with a small activity. Everyone in the room found a partner to share the dream they wrote on the piece of paper.
Finally, I signed a couple of books and the event was over sooner than we thought! Six months of work and preparation was over. Well, here’s to more work and preparation then – because every single second of this event was worth working for!
