I’m pleased to show you some early illustrations of The Girl Who Wanted to Catch a Cloud in a Marmalade Jar. I find Duncan’s illustrations really awesome and quirky. To my surprise, he made them look more interesting than I imagined them. I’m not exaggerating when I say my book would be nothing without them.
Cheri is an 8 year old girl from London, a city almost too big for a small girl. When she spots a fox at Borough Market, she gets curious, but her mom fails to believe her. When Cheri is made wrong, she decides to do the greatest thing in the world that no one had ever done before – to catch the cloud in a marmalade jar.
Ruby The Fox
Ruby is the fox that challenges Cheri to catch the cloud in a marmalade jar. She’s a frequent food hunter since she has four little foxes to feed. If you’re lucky, you can spot Ruby by St Paul’s Cathedral where she lives in her secret den.
Mrs Leicester is Cheri’s mom. She has a great interest in making marmalades of all kinds. You can find spending most of the time standing behind a counter – either kitchen one or the one of her food stall at Borough Market. She also makes outstanding meringues that you will most likely finish in one sitting.
