Matcha is the new coffee. Don’t take me wrong: coffee is amazing. I only have one tiny problem with coffee. I can’t handle too much caffeine well and I have a tendency to overcaffeinate myself when I take holidays. So I thought, Less caffeine, better sleep – that’s exactly what I need. With that, I visited 3 great matcha spots in Manhattan.
1. Cha Cha Matcha
I really loved the name. The interior had a nice Hawaiian vibe. The big cup of coconut latte felt refreshing. The best thing about this place – it was spacious and the service was friendly. Next time I’m in New York, I’m reserving my seat in Cha Cha Matcha for at least a half a day.
Three surprises were waiting for me at Chailat: no wifi, no toilet and air conditioning so strong that even in the hottest summer day I needed a warm drink. Luckily, my order was already on its way before I found out. And that was probably good, because the Chalait is one of the few places where they have matcha and macadamia nut milk. The combination was amazingly delicious.
As far as I know, the place was about to move and I suppose it’s for the best. The interior (sorry, no pictures!) felt a little bit cold and plain – all grey and white – and some of the logistics (toilets, I’m looking at you Chalait staff) just don’t work. At least the drinks are magic.
3. Bibble & Sip
For once I wish I didn’t have gluten and lactose intolerance as Bibble & Sip offers really cool matcha pastries. If you can handle a crowd of people and high decibels of noise coming from the Theatre District, you won’t regret your visit.
